The Sounds of Silence

Christian, there are two things you will not hear today on the Lord’s Day.

The first is the horrific screams of the innocent—babies in the womb—whose cries are silenced as they are sliced apart, suctioned out, and poisoned unto death.

The second is silence of another kind: you will not hear your local church speak of it. You will not hear your pastor call you to repentance for your indifference and apathy. No grief will be expressed. No lament will be sung. No tears will be shed. No funeral dirge will rise for the millions being slaughtered right under our noses.

But know this: there is One who hears. Just as Abel’s blood cried out from the ground after Cain murdered him, so too the blood of these innocent children cries out to God. And their cries are so loud that He cannot and will not listen to the songs, prayers, and offerings of an unrepentant church.

Isaiah chapter 1 still speaks: “When you spread out your hands, I will hide my eyes from you; even though you make many prayers, I will not listen; your hands are full of blood.”

Repent, Christian. For until you do, your worship today is an offense before a holy God.
