Open Letter to Connecticut Legislators
December 15, 2025
Dear Legislator,
Grace and peace.
My name is Norman Harold Patterson Jr. I am the founder of www.AbolishAbortionCT.org, a longtime Connecticut resident, and a former pastor and chaplain. I am writing to ask for something simple, but important: time to speak with you about the goal of abolishing abortion in Connecticut.
I know this is a lofty goal. I also know it is difficult, costly, and politically dangerous. But history shows that great evils have only ever been confronted and overturned through the moral clarity and perseverance of abolitionists. With the help of God, things that once seemed impossible have been done before.
I believe most legislators are either pro-life or at least sympathetic to the moral convictions that animate the pro-life movement. I do not doubt the sincerity, conviction, or good intentions of pro-lifers. However, after more than fifty years of incremental regulation and gradual reform, abortion remains legal in every state of the union and is increasing in many of them. The strategy, though well-intentioned, has not delivered equal justice to the preborn.
I am asking you—respectfully and earnestly—to please give me the opportunity to talk with you about what abolitionactually is, what it is not, and why equal protection under law matters. I welcome hard questions. I am not asking for agreement—only for a fair hearing.
I am available to meet wherever is most convenient for you: your office, a coffee shop, or anywhere else you prefer. I understand that an abolitionist position is difficult for a legislator. But there are moments in history when standing for what is right must come before what is safe or popular.
One politician once said to me, “Bring me the numbers of support, and I may listen.” I would gently ask instead: what about doing what is right, regardless of the cost?
I sincerely hope you will consider meeting with me. I will continue reaching out, and I do plan to call, but I wanted to write first in good faith.
Thank you for your time and for your service to the people of Connecticut.
Respectfully,
Norman Harold Patterson Jr.
