A Modern Holocaust: Repentance for the Sacrifice of Our Children

In our day, few words carry as much weight and horror as the word Holocaust. We use it almost exclusively to describe the genocide of six million Jews and millions of others during World War II — a word chosen because of its meaning: total destruction by fire.

But long before the twentieth century, the word holocaust came from the Greek holokauston, meaning “whole burnt offering.” It described a sacrifice completely consumed by fire, offered to pagan gods or, in the Jewish context, to the Holy One of Israel.

Today, we are witnessing another holocaust — one far more hidden, yet no less evil. Every day, thousands of unborn children are sacrificed on the altar of convenience, prosperity, and self. Their tiny lives are treated as expendable in order to avoid the “burden” of parenthood or the inconvenience of pregnancy. Some abortion advocates even go so far as to call abortion a sacrament.

In truth, abortion is child sacrifice — a holokauston — not unto God, but unto Satan himself. As Psalm 106:37 says:

“They sacrificed their sons and their daughters to the demons.”

Until we as Christians truly see abortion for what it is — a spiritual offering to darkness — our silence will continue. And our silence is not neutral. It speaks volumes. It tells the world that we do not care, or worse, that we tacitly agree.

God’s judgment has already begun with His own people and is spilling over into our nation. Unless we repent of our apathy and demand an end to child sacrifice, His righteous wrath will continue to fall.

Let us begin now with prayer.

A Prayer of Repentance

O Lord of Hosts,

We come before You in humility and brokenness, acknowledging the depths of our sin and the weight of our transgressions. We confess that as a people and as a nation, we have strayed far from Your commandments. Our hands are stained with the innocent blood of children, sacrificed on the altar of convenience and prosperity.

Forgive us, O merciful Father, for our apathy and silence in the face of this great evil. We have turned a blind eye to the cries of the unborn and hardened our hearts to their plight. Our churches have been mute, our pastors have been passive, and we, Your people, have been complicit in this grievous sin.

We repent of our indifference, our neglect of Your holy statutes, and our failure to uphold the sanctity of life. Cleanse us, O Lord, from this iniquity. Grant us the courage to stand boldly for the truth, to defend the defenseless, and to speak out against the abomination of abortion.

We beseech You, O God, to pour out Your Spirit upon us, awakening our hearts to the reality of this modern-day holocaust. Stir within us a holy zeal to combat the darkness and proclaim Your righteousness in a land that has forsaken You.

We plead for Your mercy, O Lord. Do not turn Your face away from us. In wrath, remember mercy. Forgive us for the innocent blood that cries out from the ground and restore to us the joy of Your salvation. Let Your church rise up with one voice, denouncing the evil of child sacrifice and calling this nation to repentance.

We know that Your judgment has begun within Your house and has spread across our nation. Yet, we trust in Your promise:

“If my people who are called by my name humble themselves, and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)

O Lord, make us instruments of Your peace and agents of Your justice. Empower us to shine as lights in the darkness, bearing witness to the truth that all life is sacred and precious in Your sight.

We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer and Lord,

Amen.

What You Can Do Today

The shedding of innocent blood cannot continue unchecked while the church remains silent.

If this prayer resonates with you, I urge you:

  • Pray it often — privately and in your church.

  • Share this message with your pastor and fellow believers.

  • Speak out in your sphere of influence against abortion.

  • Support ministries and movements that labor for the complete abolition of abortion, not merely its restriction.

God does not call His people to comfortable silence but to costly obedience.

Let us rise together, repent, and stand firm — until this modern holocaust ends.
